Liposuction Cost in Morristown New Jersey

Liposuction has been and remains the most successful plastic surgery since its inception in the early eighties, yet there is constantly an attempt to improve on it. The only improvement came early with the addition of what we called the wetting solution, which was some local anesthetic and the naturally existing epinephrine. This made a tremendous difference as the earlier liposuction was quite bloody and for larger volume, blood transfusion was necessary. The addition of epinephrine and Lidocaine made the operation safer to the point that many areas could be treated at the same time with less bleeding and no need for transfusion. This is also called the tumescent technique. Here, a large volume of a dilute solution of Lidocaine and epinephrine is inserted with a blunt cannula. This made the procedure safer and allowed it to be performed in the office under local anesthesia. I think this is where the improvements reached their peek, as anything else that came later was more complicated, expensive and increased the complication rate. For me, the ultrasonic and laser assisted liposuction offer no benefit and increase the side effects. The industry tries to say that ultrasound and lasers are superior because they cause the skin to shrink after liposuction but the shrinkage either doesn’t happen or if it does it is so minimal that it is not worth the additional risk. The smart lipo that is a laser assisted liposuction was marketed to non plastic surgeons as a way to boost their income and the company’s sales. This was also marketed as something that could be done under local anesthesia in the office. The tumescent liposuction can also be done under local anesthesia in the office, but this is conveniently never mentioned in the company’s marketing material.

So, what is really important and what gives the patient the best results at the lowest cost? It is indeed the quality, training and talent of the surgeon and not the technique or machine that is used.

What determines the cost of liposuction is the extent of the procedure, the size of the patient and how many areas are treated. I recently saw a patient who had seen me a few years ago for liposuction. I had told her that liposuction was not the answer for her and a tummy tuck was necessary. She was also asked to lose some weight to make the procedure safer and more effective. She went elsewhere and was offered the smart lipo ( laser assisted liposuction ) and got a horrible result. Then, she comes back telling me that she should have listened to me in the first place and is very apologetic. Now, my procedure is harder to do, but even though I did not charge her extra for the additional work of correcting the errors, this is going to cost her more because she has already paid the other surgeon. She could have also avoided the pain and recovery of the useless procedure that she underwent.

Liposuction can be done on small areas under a local anesthetic safely and with a quick recovery time for between $2000 to $5000, depending on the size of the area treated.

A small liposuction under the chin could be done in the office with immediate results and very quick recovery for under $2500. This is less expensive than any other procedure including Kybella injections that have to be repeated with minimal results.
